About Marla – Consultant / Instructor

LEED AP, NAHB Certified Green Professional

Marla is the founder and owner  of Sustaining Spaces.  Her professional repertoire includes consulting, marketing, and sales within the green, consulting, outplacement and Information Technology industries. Her experience ranges from corporate to entrepreneurial. When she is not engaged in formal marketing, sales, strategy, or other sides of business, she will be organizing or planning – an event, a class or the next target market. Her love of presenting and training is evident in her many speaking and training gigs; both have been part of her toolkit for many years – from building the offering all the way to teaching or presenting it.

Marla, a Langsdorf Fellow, earned a B.S. in Engineering and Public Policy and a Certificate in Energy from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a steering council member of the St. Louis Home Builders Association Green Building Council and Greening Midwest Communities 2010 Conference, and the US Green Building Council – St. Louis chapter.  She shares her knowledge of Green Basics for homes and small businesses as an instructor for continuing education programs around St. Louis and guest speaker for the Rockwood School District’s Parents in Education program. At Washington University, she mentors Washington University students in both the Engineering and Business schools and is the Alumni Advisor for the Washington University Marrow Registry. She volunteers with Pi Beta Phi Alumnae and both of her children’s schools, often sharing her “green and energy knowledge” and the “art” of bringing people together.
